“Oh, that’s just lovely. I’m so sorry.” Monk raised his shaggy head and wiped the drool from the corner of his sleepy mouth. Still sexy, Juno thought. I’m sunk. “So smooth. Very attractive. How’s this date going so far? Enough drool? I think I have more. Later I’ll, I don’t know, belch or sneeze on you.”

“Something to look forward to.” Juno chuckled, tossing Monk a box of travel tissues. “This plane has everything! I went through all the cabinets while you were sleeping looking for your box of passports and secret weapons.”

Monk almost looked authentically surprised. But he recovered quicky. “Did you find the handcuffs?” he asked slyly.

Juno smirked and raised an eyebrow. “No, but I found a package of Zingers so old it still has Snoopy on it. Tell your friend he needs to clean more or eat more. Or both.”

“Zingers never go bad. Too many chemicals. Mmm. Where is that package? I could use a snack.”

“Can we get something in the airport?” Juno raised the blind and looked out at the tarmac. “Oh, I guess it’s not that Cincinnati airport. I should have seen that coming.”

“Afraid not,” Monk said through a mouthful of sponge cake. “There’s a pretty sweet vending machine by the back entrance, though.”

“Full of ancient Zingers?”

Monk licked his fingers and removed another cake from the package. “Don’t knock ’em, as they say…”

“I’ll pass. I’ll wait for… Where was that you said we were going?”

“I didn’t,” Monk said, dropping back into the chair across from Juno. “And I’m sorry; I was teasing, and then I fell asleep, and now it’s kind of needlessly dramatic. We’re going to Vermont. I’m actually… Vermont is actually where I’m from.”

Juno sat back. “Monk, I’m genuinely surprised. Vermont was not on the short list of places I thought you might be from.” Then again, she thought, what do I even know about you? But she felt her doubt melting away. The fast-car-driving, fast-talking prince of Vegas was from picturesque Vermont. Her ID Channel nightmare was turning into Hallmark Classic.

Pilot Alan returned, carrying a padded cooler and a hamper. Monk clapped his hands in joy.

“Perfect timing! Juno, you’re going to love a three-way. I can’t get enough of them. Alan, did you remember the oyster crackers?”

Pilot Alan saw Juno’s jaw drop to her knees and waved his hand, laughing. “A three-way, in Cincinnati at least, means a big bowl of pasta with some extraordinary chili from Skyline. And yes,” he turned to Monk, “oyster crackers in the bag. Graeter’s black raspberry in the cooler, along with a sparkling rose, because, I’m sorry, that will go with your menu here better than what you selected. I took the liberty. Let me get my box of doughnuts and I’ll get us back in the air shortly. Holtman’s—Juno, I can tell by your response here that you haven’t been to the area before. Take one of these before I go, trust me.”

Juno walked around staring at the large doughnut in her hand while Monk set
